For the first time in history, Met Gala will welcome a Spanish high-street brand. Mango was present at the world’s most important social event in the fashion industry with the creation of an exclusive dress for Sofía Sanchez de Betak, the brand’s ambassador. The art director and fashion consultant attended the event, held at the legendary Metropolitan Museum of Art and hosted by Anna Wintour, Lady Gaga and Harry Styles and co-chaired by Selena Williams and Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele, with a design inspired by this year’s theme.

The piece created for the occasion embodies the ingenuity and extravagance defined by the Camp concept. An amusing aesthetic which refers to the notion of mango as a fruit in its most colourful aspect: striking tones, intricate fabrics, volumes, details in the accessories and a particular sensibility based on the theatrical.

To give form and articulate the identity of this exclusive design, Sofía Sanchez de Betak, worked together with the stylist Mimi Cuttrell and the Mango design team on its development. “This is a very significant moment for Mango. With these types of projects we want to inspire our customers, show them another side of the brand, present them other experiences and make them a part of historic milestones for the firm”, says Jan Rivera, Mango Image Director.

In addition to the limited edition of the model worn by Sofía Sánchez de Betak on the red carpet, the brand has designed a capsule collection inspired by the Meta Gala theme. The dress and a selection of garments will be available at the Mango store in New York, located at 561 Broadway, and on Mango’s official webpage, mango.com from 3 June.

Sofía Sanchez has been collaborating with Mango for more than 2 years. Born in Argentina, she is entrepreneur, art director, fashion consultant and designer. Her passion for travelling, her magnetic beauty and her style, eclectic and very own has confirmed her as a real fashion icon.
